In September, as part of the European Mobility Week, the Municipality of Novo mesto traditionally offers free rides on city buses, which is only possible with the use of the Sitium smart system. Sitium is available to users through an application for mobile phones and as a physical contactless card and offers a simplified and easier way of using public services.
Users download the Sitium application to their mobile phones free of charge and top it up with funds or credit via the VALU mobile wallet. At the information points of the Sitium system operating at the headquarters of the Municipality of Novo mesto on Seidlova cesta 1, in the Miran Jarac Library and at the Novo Mesto bus station, during the promotional period from August 30 to September 15, 2023, it is possible to obtain a physical Sitium card free of charge, which otherwise it costs five euros. Users can also top it up with credit at these places.
The Sitium smart system represents an important step on the way to realizing the vision of a smart community, which is being developed by the Novo mesto Municipality together with its partners. In addition to using and paying for parking and city passenger transport, Sitium will in the future also enable the payment of various other services, such as entrance fees to events and sports facilities, library services and bicycle rentals, and the municipality will also be able to inform users about important information about tenders and registrations to kindergartens, about air quality and the like.
