Starting in 2025: Key Changes in Bus Passenger Transport in Kranj

The Municipality of Kranj (MOK) is introducing significant changes to public bus transport starting in the new year. The key innovation is digital payment, which will simplify the use of urban public transport within the Municipality of Kranj.

With the implementation of digital payments on eleven city bus routes (lines 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 11A, 11B, 14, and 15), Kranj joins many European cities that have modernized public transport, resulting in fewer delays and a more enjoyable and efficient service for passengers. Starting in the new year, cash payments to drivers upon boarding the bus will no longer be possible. Payments can be made using IJPP tickets or CeKR, Mastercard, Visa, and BA Maestro payment cards. Passengers will use their payment card upon each bus entry and will be charged for only one daily ticket, which remains priced at €1. Even if multiple transactions are registered in one day, the final charge will only reflect the cost of a single daily ticket, as transactions are automatically processed overnight.

Passengers using the CeKR city card will also benefit from additional features, as CeKR implements a “fair payment” system, offering the best ticket prices. For example, ten paid daily tickets in a single month will automatically convert into a monthly ticket. Similarly, 100 daily tickets purchased in a year will grant free rides until the end of a one-year period, valid from the first validation date of the month to the end of the same month in the following year (e.g., if the first purchase is made on January 6, 2025, the annual ticket will be valid until January 31, 2026). The CeKR card can be recharged online, with cash payments possible via a UPN form at all bank and savings bank branches, and soon at the MOK reception office. Cash purchases of daily tickets are also available at the main bus station.

The Municipality of Kranj (MOK) informs passengers that there will be a transitional period until March 1, 2025. During this time, ARRIVA cardholders with an annual ticket can use it until February 28, 2025. Monthly tickets on the ARRIVA card can still be purchased for January and February 2025. After the transitional period, passengers will need to obtain a CeKR city card. Unused credit on the ARRIVA card can be refunded at the Kranj Bus Station.

On intercity lines within MOK that connect Kranj with Podreča, Podblica, Žabnica, and Golnik, the ARRIVA card will remain valid until the end of the transitional period, i.e., March 1, 2025, offering the same benefits as the CeKR card. During this period, rides on these lines can also be paid for in cash. In such cases, passengers will receive a printed ticket upon boarding and a record slip when transferring. The price of a daily ticket remains €1, and a monthly ticket costs €10. MOK emphasizes that monthly ticket holders for these lines will also have unlimited access to urban public transport.

Children under six years of age can travel on city buses free of charge throughout the year. For children aged six to 15, a 50% discount applies, making the daily ticket €0.50, the monthly ticket €5, and the annual ticket €50.
