Dear passengers please be informed that, starting January 1, 2025, cash payments for bus tickets will no longer be possible. Tickets can only be paid for using payment cards (CeKR, Mastercard, Visa, and BA Maestro) or IJPP tickets.
With this change, Kranj joins numerous European cities (including Ljubljana) that have modernized public transport. Digital payment systems have resulted in fewer delays and a more pleasant and efficient service for passengers.
How will it work?
- You will use your payment card each time you board a bus, but you will only be charged for one daily ticket according to the fare (1 euro/day).
- Accepted payment cards for bus fares include CeKR, Mastercard, Visa, and BA Maestro.
- Only the CeKR city card offers travel benefits:
- 10 paid daily tickets in a month = a monthly ticket
- 100 paid daily tickets = an annual ticket
- The CeKR card can be recharged online or with cash via a UPN form at any bank or savings bank. Soon, it will also be possible to recharge it at the MOK reception office.
- Daily tickets can still be purchased with cash at the main bus station in Kranj.
For IJPP ticket holders (integrated public passenger transport), nothing changes as their (subsidized) tickets are already loaded onto contactless cards or chips.
Why choose CeKR?
- A prepaid card free of charge for Kranj residents, with no maintenance fees.
- A single card for all city services – already valid for city buses, bike-sharing with KRsKOLESOM, libraries, and more services coming soon.
- Enables secure payments at home, abroad, and online (based on the international Visa payment system).
- Offers current and future travel benefits.
- Parents can also order a CeKR card for children aged 6 and older (it can hold money for bus tickets).
How to get a CeKR card?
You can order it at the Municipality of Kranj, the Kranj branch of NLB, the website cekr.eu, and soon at the Kranj City Library (you only need an ID and a tax number).

Additional advice:
Retirees, holders of European disability cards, war veterans, and people aged 65 and older are encouraged—if they haven’t already—to apply for an IJPP ticket, which allows free travel on buses and trains in urban and intercity public transport throughout Slovenia.
Tickets can still be purchased with cash at the sales point at Kranj’s main bus station.
Thank you for your understanding.
We wish you a safe and pleasant journey.
