Passengers on city bus routes in Koper can now pay for their rides using Visa or Mastercard cards, mobile wallets, or other wearable devices. This addition of card payments to the existing payment methods is a significant innovation that will greatly benefit occasional users, daily commuters, and tourists traveling by bus.
This technological solution supports sustainability and improved accessibility, which are key areas in efforts to reduce carbon emissions and enhance public transport.
“Arriva is committed to providing the most convenient and user-friendly experience for our passengers,” said Bo Karlsson, CEO of Arriva in Slovenia. “The introduction of card payments marks a significant step forward in achieving our goal of offering a seamless and sustainable transportation system for all.”
This new payment method, alongside the already established Koper Card Plus, expands the utility of public transport and further enhances its accessibility. The card payment validation process is the same as with the existing Koper Card Plus payment system. Passengers can now enjoy the convenience of boarding a bus and paying for their ride by simply holding their Visa or Mastercard, mobile wallet, or wearable device close to the validator, allowing for faster and more efficient journeys.
When paying for multiple people at once, the passenger must inform the driver of the number of people they are paying for before using their payment card. It is important to note that the payment card can only be used to pay for the ride on the bus being boarded. It does not allow transfers between different buses without purchasing a new ticket.
The ongoing efforts of Arriva and the Municipality of Koper to modernize the public transport system in Koper demonstrate their joint commitment to providing efficient, sustainable, and accessible services to passengers. By introducing card payments, Arriva and the Municipality of Koper respond to the changing needs of passengers and contribute to the transformation of public transport in Koper.
