Information for Users

Users of the Single City Card Piran (EMK Piran) can install the Arriva Piran mobile application on their Android or iOS smartphones. The application serves as a virtual stored-value Unified City Card.

The Arriva Piran application is an innovation developed by the Municipality of Piran and Arriva. It uses DOV technology for contactless payment of services within the Single City Card Piran system.

If you change your mobile phone, you can activate the Arriva Piran application on your new mobile device at the AP Lucija sales point, Obala 114, or by email at piran@arriva.si.

Funds can be transferred between the physical and virtual Single City Card Piran in the Arriva Piran mobile application at the AP Lucija sales point.

For additional information, users can contact us by email at piran@arriva.si or by phone at 05 671 31 22.

The Arriva Piran mobile application enables fast and easy payment for journeys on city buses.

The application offers a user-friendly and straightforward experience for users of smartphones running Android or iOS.

For city public transport services, the application offers all the features available with the Piran stored-value Single City Card Piran. You can use it to pay contactlessly for a city bus journey (Arriva), make free transfers within 30 minutes, and top up your card balance. The application also allows you to check your balance and validation history, view bus arrival timetables, plan journeys around the city, and access travel information.

The Arriva Piran application is available to users of all mobile operators, while topping up the stored-value Single City Card Piran account via VALÚ is available to users of all Slovenian mobile operators.

How to Install the Application

Enter the keyword Arriva Piran in the search field of your app store.

The Arriva Piran mobile application can be installed via Google Play on smartphones running Android 5.0 or later, and via the App Store on devices running iOS 10 or later. Use on non-factory versions of Android or iOS operating systems is not recommended.

Topping Up the Mobile Application

The Arriva Piran mobile application balance can be topped up:

  • within the application using VALÚ;
  • within the application using payment cards.

The maximum permitted balance is €50.00.

Topping Up with VALÚ

Within the application, select the option to top up your balance using VALÚ, enter the desired top-up amount, and enter your PIN (if you have activated one). Before making your first top-up, you must activate your phone number for VALÚ top-ups. When you first attempt to top up your account, the Arriva Piran application will automatically offer you the option to activate VALÚ top-ups. Enter the phone number in the designated field. You will receive a confirmation SMS containing an activation code, which you must enter in the confirmation field.

You can also activate VALÚ top-ups on the Linked Number screen, which you can access via the side menu. If you do not receive the message shortly, check that you have entered the correct number on the Linked Number screen. If the number is correct, you can request a new activation code on the same screen.

Topping up the mobile application account with VALÚ is available to all users of Slovenian mobile operators. Telekom Slovenije and A1 subscribers can also automatically top up their VALÚ account with VALÚ Moneta when topping up their EMK Piran balance if they do not have sufficient funds in their VALÚ account at the time of the top-up.

Topping Up with Payment Cards

Within the application, enter the desired top-up amount and select the option to top up your account using a payment card. The application will direct you to a form where you will enter your payment card number and other required information to complete the top-up successfully. Once the top-up has been completed successfully, the mobile application will automatically return to the home screen, where your Arriva Piran account balance is displayed. You can then quickly and conveniently proceed to purchase a monthly ticket or automatically purchase a single ticket directly on the bus.

Purchasing a Monthly Ticket

All formalities relating to the transfer of entitlements from a physical period-based Single City Card Piran to a virtual Single City Card Piran (the application), as well as the recording of the entitlement to use a monthly ticket, must be completed at the Arriva sales point at the Lucija transport hub, Obala 114, Portorož.

The entitlement to a monthly ticket can only be recorded on one medium (either in the application or on the physical card, but not on both).

Monthly tickets for public transport in Piran are available to residents with permanent and/or temporary residence in the Municipality of Piran, as well as pupils, secondary-school students, and university students attending schools or educational institutions in the Municipality of Piran.

Using the Application

Purchasing a Single Ticket via the Piran Mobile Application Using Bluetooth Technology

Passengers can purchase a single ticket directly through the Piran mobile application using Bluetooth technology. There is no need to hold the mobile device against the validator—the passenger only needs to be within its range (up to 2 metres) and press the identification button.

The application allows passengers to select the number of people travelling, with one person selected by default. A Bluetooth connection is established between the terminal and the mobile device to check the status of the passenger’s application:

  • If the application already contains a valid ticket, the ticket is validated.
  • If there is no valid ticket, the system checks the available balance.
  • If the balance is sufficient, a single ticket is purchased automatically.
  • If there are insufficient funds, the purchase cannot be completed.

Purchasing Tickets for Multiple People

Users of the Piran application can specify in advance the number of people for whom they wish to purchase tickets. When using Bluetooth technology, the number of people selected in the application is taken into account. This number must correspond to the actual number of people boarding the bus.

If the passenger already has a valid ticket (a time-based ticket or a single ticket that is still valid during a transfer), only the remaining passengers will be charged.
