Arriva and the Municipality of Piran have introduced a new feature for passengers – the free Arriva Piran mobile app (Android, iOS), enabling quick and easy payment for rides in Piran’s urban bus transport and providing timetable-based arrival information.

The app also allows users to monitor their account balance, review validation history, check bus arrival schedules, plan trips within the municipality, and access travel information.

Users of Piran urban transport services can install the Arriva Piran mobile app on their smartphones. The app functions as a virtual stored-value card within the Unified Municipal Card Piran (EMK) system.

The Arriva Piran app works similarly to a physical card. The user taps their smartphone with the virtual card against the validator (reader), just as with a physical card, to quickly and easily pay for urban bus journeys in Piran.

After downloading the app (Android or iOS), the user registers. A virtual card with “transferable” status is automatically activated, and the user can load credit onto it. Credit top-ups are available via payment cards and the VALÚ payment app.

All formalities related to transferring rights from a physical time-based unified card to the virtual card (app), as well as recording monthly ticket rights, must be arranged at the Arriva sales point: TPC Lucija, Obala 114, Portorož.

The Arriva Piran smartphone app offers EMK Piran system functions in urban transport: contactless payment and free transfers within 30 minutes. In addition, the app allows passengers to top up their virtual EMK Piran account, check their balance, and review validation history.

The app also provides useful information about urban transport services, such as bus arrival information, a map of urban bus routes, trip planning, nearby bus stop locations, and other features, as stated by Rok Humar from the Municipality of Piran.

The mobile app is available for iOS and Android and supports Slovenian, Italian, and English. All necessary information, as well as assistance with installation and use, is available at piran@arriva.si and by phone at +386 5 671 31 22.

An upgrade is planned that will enable real-time bus arrival tracking and payment for multiple passengers at once. The upgrade is expected to be available in December 2020. Until then, arrivals and departures can be tracked according to the timetable.

Contactless payment with bank cards and the VALÚ mobile wallet is also available on urban transport vehicles.
